13 Mar 2025 Agree, minimum 3 per hour off-peak, ideally back to pre-Covid's 4, and a dream result of the once-claimed objective of 6. Separately, I remain baffled by TfL's refusal to include our train line, and several equivalents, on their transport in London maps. Segments of London that are satisfied by rail transport, invariably including interchanges with the TfL network to make[…]
13 Mar 2025 I have been using the line regularly since I moved to the area in 2014 and it is a very useful route. Initially, I was commuting to work most days but since the pandemic have worked from home and use it less now but regardless of who is running it, I think that the minimum number of trains off-peak should[…]
13 Mar 2025 Thanks, Basil, for this comprehensive and, dare I say, slightly optimistic overview/answer.
12 Mar 2025 Straightforward questions, but no straightforward answers. I'll do my best to introduce Julius and other recent arrivals about the recent troubled history of our trains services, but I'm sure others will have things to add. First, my brief answers to the questions, then a bit of history. TfL taking over the services: good news? I'd say yes, almost certainly, though[…]
7 Mar 2025 I think it is interesting that this post doesn't say why we got to this situation of needing the survey in the first place. It is a bit of an 'elephant in the room' and understand fully why this has come about but a shame it has to take this kind of initiative to address it.
6 Mar 2025 What happened to this proposal?
6 Mar 2025 Thanks for sharing the following story in PG Community Newsletter: . I'm new to Palmers Green and likely to use the train from its station regularly. To me, it seems like good news that trains stopping at our station will be under TfL, but I could be wrong. What are neighbours experience of the trains from Palmer Green (timetable, reliability etc)?[…]
5 Mar 2025 [Original article] Article not displaying properly? Click here The Southgate Ward Safer Neighbourhood Team, together with the council's Journeys and Places Team and the Met Police, are running an event on 14th March to find out women's feelings about their safety in Southgate town centre. The "Walk, Talk and Do initiative" will take place between 3pm and 7pm on Friday[…]
3 Mar 2025 Nice report on the Enfield Dispatch website from this afternoon's dedication of Barney's Bridge: Beloved cat immortalised as ‘Barney’s Bridge’ unveiled in Enfield Town Believe it or not, the previous story posted to the Dispatch website was about a dog! Fire investigation dog retires after ‘distinguished career’ Coincidence, or carefully planned by James Cracknell? Perhaps it would be an improvement[…]
2 Mar 2025 Enfield Council has dropped its plans to create a controlled parking zone in 'Palmers Green East'. The results of a public consultation held last year indicated overwhelming opposition to the proposal, while a residents' group opposed to the CPZ and another planned for Arnos Grove had threatened legal action, claiming that that the proposals were unlawful.
27 Feb 2025 [Original article] Article not displaying properly? Click here When I set up the subject tags for this website, there was one that never crossed my mind - "Local pets". However, my subject today is a cat. As I'm expecting this to be something of a one-off, I've decided to assign Barney to the "Local people" category - however, I'm not[…]
27 Feb 2025 PG resident Steve Acroyd has been undergoing expensive treatment for a rare type of brain cancer. He's made tremendous progress, thanks to generour donations from others, but the money is running out. A 'big fat raffle' offers you the chance to win some excellent prizes, and Steve the chance to continue to get better.
26 Feb 2025 Tuesday 25th February was the date of the appeal against our council refusing planning permission for the change of use of the previous Lloyds Bank site to an Adult Gaming Centre (AGC). The history is well documented on the PGC web site: https://www.pgweb.uk/forum/palmers-green-town-centre/1597-pg-action-team-leading-fight-to-block-new-gambling-venue The applicants – East Kent Leasing – were represented by a KC, a licensing solicitor and a[…]
20 Feb 2025 There's more about the revised library closure plans on the Enfield Dispatch website.
19 Feb 2025 Despite last Tuesday's decision by Enfield Council to grant planning permission to Tottenham Hotspur to fence off a large section of Whitewebbs Park for a women's football training centre, campaigners against the deal gathered on Sunday morning at Whitewebbs for a combined protest and nature walk.
18 Feb 2025 [Original article] Article not displaying properly? Click here A revised draft of the Enfield Council Library Strategy has seen only one library removed from the list of proposed cuts. Winchmore Hill, Southgate and Bowes Road are still faced with closure, but Oakwood will now stay open. Southgate Library remains on the list of branches that the council intends to close.[…]
